Silas Burke owned 14 people on the day he died
The first two enslaved people listed in Silas Burke’s estate, inventoried after his death in 1854, were named Dennis Seales and Lucy. Twelve more were listed on the following page, bringing the total to 14. Their combined appraised value was $7,550, equivalent to $279,000 in 2024.
